Why is it so hard to tell if he likes me???

I know, I’ve asked this question before but im really confused. Me and my ex dont really talk anymore, because it was really bad when we broke up and blah blah blah. Back in November out friend told me he liked someone and then in December he said he liked someone else. But usually if were in the hallway or something and im not looking at him hell look at me, and when I catch him he’ll look down really fast or raise his eyebrows or blink really fast or something. He always laughs at whatever I say. But yesterday we were in the library and he sat at a table next to were the girl my friend told me he liked a while ago was and her friends and was laughing at there jokes and stuff and I went over there and sat down and at first he didnt look at me and then my friend was talking about how shes bi and, because I always draw attention to myself when hes around I yelled ‘I like guys!!” and when I was talking about that he leaned toward my direction and was staring at me with his mouth open. But then when we were leaving he was looking over at her and her friends again( but hes the type of person that randomly stares at people, so I don’t know) and then when I saw him again he wouldnt look at me and was kinda smiling/laughing. help??? I need some opinions and also how can I stop drawing so much attention to myself when hes around cause afterwards im embarrased and my friends think im retarded or something.
