Why is he being so difficult?

Ok…so my boyfriend is in his Master’s Program and he was so busy yesterday he forgot to pay for his classes. He didn’t realize this until he got to work today, then got stressed because he wasn’t worried if he’d be able to finish his work up before 3pm. His scheduled shift had him off at 5pm, but if he hurried he’d be able to get everything done then run out of there to his school…

His school offices close at 4pm, and its one hell of a drive from our job. I offered to give him my offtime of 2pm so not only would he have enough time but he’d be able to hang out for a little while at home before we met up tonight. I even offered to finish his paperwork as my day was going to be significantly easier then his was, and I don’t mind the extra work…

he got all balky and said it’d throw his schedule off if I was to give him a earlier offtime and he also wanted to go work out afterwards…

I told him I was giving him a solution to his major problem (getting his classes paid for) and I couldn’t understand why something minor (going to work out) made him question me giving him the off time that was at 2pm…

I was kinda annoyed at him and he went about his work, got done at 3pm and left…I was already home…when he called and told me he was on the way to his classes and he’d see me tonight for the movie.

Why was he being so irritable? I mean…I thought I was really helping him…
