Why does my hamster do it?

Why does my hamster keep chewing the bars of her cage? She has lots of toys and treats in her cage and them little wooden block things to chew but she still chews the bars.. its rather annoying! How can I stop her doing this? x

Answer #1

im sure anything like that would work, like sticks && twigs.

Answer #2

Mine does that too! Hamsters are like beavers, their front teeth never stop growing, to they have to be constantly knawing in order to shorten their teeth. Provide the with bits or wood to chew on. And by this, I don’t mean the fancy wood painted things you get it pet stores, they will shy away from that. Scrap wood, twigs, etc. Also, I used to trow in old plastic vitamin bottles. Don’t worry, they don’t swallow, but they sure like to chew the heck out of them. The less they have to chew on, the more likely they will go for the cage, so keep a good supply or hard plastic or wood to throw in and they will just eat it up, (figuratevely of course)

Answer #3

I don’t know if this is good for them or not (check with a vet!) but my neighbor uses puppy sized rawhide bones for her hammies and they LOVE them. They don’t ‘eat’ them, per say, but they just scrape on them. The really hard ones with a knot on both ends…

thankyou so much, thats really helped (:

are there any other things which youu could use instead of vitamin bottles? x
