Why does he try ??

My dad has never been around .. Hes alway been a drug addict an clucked off all my mons stuff .. He stole from here and everything . He’s been in and out of jail and evrytging . Now that I’m visiting his my ( my grandma ) and now he’s trying to be my dad .. HE’S NEVER BEEN AROUND .. Why does he do this ??

Most parents who did what he did are like that. My Mom did the same thing…they are trying to fix things. He feels like he has failed you and he wants to be your dad but is not sure how. He also keeps messing up or leaving because he is afraid of staying around longer and getting closer and then hurting you again. He has been living like this for a while he doesnt know anyother way of life.

I’m sure you hold some resentment for what he did in the past, but if he has truely changed ,and I’m sure you can tell, you shouldn’t hold the past against him. the past can’t be changed but the future can be made better. maybe he wants to re-establish his relationship with you and be a good father. people do change. but if you only bring up the past and don’t acknowledge his efforts to change than nothing will ever get better.

While he may be trying to patch things up with you, he could also be trying to get close to you and his mother to steal from you. Give him a chance, but don’t be too trusting for a while.

Yes, he is trying to fix things. I have a friend who had was in the same situation like you. So I must warn you, don’t trust him too much. I’m telling you this because my friend was confused by her father and began trusting him but he fell back in his old patern. And if you don’t want his attention just try to slightly ignore him.

He feels like a failure and wants to make up for it.. but he’s probably only trying to prove it to himself, to make himself feel better.
