Why do you think people are growing up so fast?

Do you think people are growing up too fast? For example at my school (I am 14 btw) the people in my classes are drinking alcohol, smoking and we even have a pregnant girl!

Answer #1

I agree. My parents have done a brilliant job though, I dont drink, smoke or anything

the media teenagers do what they think is cool, what would give them more of a status at high school, what would give them the “badgirl/boy” image where have they learnt that? the media songs, artists, tv shows, soaps, magazines, celebrities, supposed “role models” teenagers who are rebelious and are more “grown-up” are seen to be the popular ones. look at nearly every show, the teens who are more grown up and rebellious are nearly always the popular ones. the world is a very different place now from say 50 years ago partly because of the media. partly because of parenting.

Thats not growing up. Thats just being immature and stupid. As a matter fact, teens are doing the exact opposite of ‘’growing up’’. Drinking, smoking, having sex, and getting pregnant at a young age is so irresponsible and stupid. All you can really do is point the finger at the media for making it look ‘’cool’’ and the people that are guiding the teens for leaving them unaware of the risks. The way I look at it, if teens were really ‘’growing up way to fast’’ then they would be skipping grades in school and being responsible with themselves. Its not going to happen anytime soon though, teens are teens and they only care about ‘’having a good time’’.

I think that’s f*ing insane!!!

I have read so many article / forum post about 14 yr olds or younger getting into drugs, alcohol, crime, getting nocked up and its crazy. First thought is where the hell are these kids parents? Why are they not knocking some sense into them? I feel old saying all this (but im only 23) but kids have lost all respect for anything. Parents don’t do any parenting any more. And lets face it, grounding kids or sitting in the corner just doesn’t cut it some times. Once you have a year of groundation lined up in front of you few more months doesn’t really mean anything any more. But if you try to physically punish a child (which I believe is perfectly acceptable, and very much needed - in the write circumstances) you get your a$$ put away for child abuse.
