why do you believe in religion?

im wondering why people believe in religion so much? im not religious though I do believe in god cause there has to be a higher power hopefully. but isn’t religion just another form of government? like it is exactly like government. it collects money, has its own laws, leaders, etc… like I know people believe in religion like anyone else but then theres those people who are religious freaks and take it too seriously. like there is absolutely no scientific proof of anything religions says so why do people believe in it so much

Toadaly: There are no gods. The idea is an ancient deception.

im not going to tell anybody that I know the answer because I guess I cant prove it much with the physical evidence. but how do you prove something that cant be captured or perceived in this life?

I mean seriously, saying there is no God or gods is a pointless ignorant statement, accept it. seeing how you DONT KNOW such things, nor does anyone alive… its just an ignorance that you, and me, and people are going to have to accept for once.

what makes sense to do about such a subject is seeking what you can find that carries truth. and if you put your ambition to finding truth, to finding answers not relying on a foundation blinded by biased points of view, you might find a conclusion that will put your mind at ease. I have, and if it makes so much sense to me still, im sticking to it.

Jester_x: Dawkens has an interesting idea that religion is a mental draw back of evolution. I suggest reading the god delusion.

it gets even more interesting when Dawkins opens up and SUGGESTS the possibility that we are descendents of an alien race or alien guinea pigs, but it becomes totally ABSURD and out of the question a belief in a life force for the universe titled God. very interesting…

Answer #2

Its true that religion is another form of control and I don’t share you belief in God. Dawkens has an interesting idea that religion is a mental draw back of evolution. I suggest reading the god delusion.

Answer #3

Yeah . .well, im still pondering if I even believe in god or not. I mean, sometimes I think, there’s gotta be a higher power. And other times, I’m thinkin’ that there cant be because if there was, why isnt he stopping all the tragedy in the world. It’s not like he cant, he’s just not, if he even exists. And I also think, well . .what if im wrong and I dont believe in god and there is one and he knows I dont believe and he sends me to hell for all of eternity for doubting him. I’m just confused . .. I dont know what to believe anymore.

Answer #4

When you say religion you probably mean the church and their practices?

I am no way religious. I do not believe in God or gods. I am an agnostic(negative atheist) Though I have visited many churches(some even fundamentalist) and got to know a little bit some of the members to see their culture(life style).

You can be a Christian and not go to church I think but people probably attend churches because they meet people. They can find friends there, maybe even the people they marry or the ones their children marry, etc It also feels better to do things when not alone. Just like going to places is not as fun as being with other people.

I guess it can also keep you somewhat out of trouble provided you are not joined to a cult or a church that believes in bombing abortion clinics, and hurting non-christians and htose you deem to be fake christians

Answer #5

Organized religion and government are both human institutions, and yes they are very similar in how they operate.

There are a lot of reasons people still believe in religion, gods, spirits, etc. Some of it has to do with communal reinforcement: people will accept something because the community in which they live accepts it, and continue believing it because it’s asserted by many people over and over again within that community. There’s also quite a bit of research on how beliefs in gods and religion are the result of our brain chemistry.

Answer #6

in fact I don’t believe theses,he can’t settle questions and can’t give me anything as I want to.I am a reality man.but sometimes I don’t know whether I should believe it or not when I go into the church to seen the worshipers to religion or gods.

Answer #7

Yes, religion is government. Until recently in historical terms, they were the same - the church and the state were one. This is still true in about 1/3 of the world. They tell you what they need to tell you to fool you into supporting them and obeying them.

There are no gods. The idea is an ancient deception.

Answer #8

I really don’t know these days whether I believe in Christianity or not.

Answer #9

I have no idea, I am in no way religious.
