as they pointed out above, history is full of valuable life lessons. when you think the world is really coming down on you, if you know history, you can think about what things were like to be- for instance- standing your ground at the alamo, and suddenly modern problems don’t seem so bad. I love history, it has helped in my artwork, in my poetry, and even in how I approach certain situations. your own personal experiences would fall under the heading of HISTORY. like pinkpearl stated, it isn’t so much the dates that things happened, as it is what happened and what we can learn from it. there are so many different cultures to study in history, so many philosophies, so many failed attempts at doing something. when you get completely immersed in history- it can truly be fascinating. for example, if I ever make it to germany, there are many old castles still around- I would be thinking about the knights that once stood there, once fought there, and died there. I highly recommend learning about history, pick a subject- egypt , the mayans, anything- and never stop learning.

I know it can be boring, but learning history is kind of interesting sometimes. I know once you hate a subject, your always going to hate it. But, just try your best and you will do good.

Answer #3

their trying to show you what we did wrong in the past so we don’t make the same mistakes in the future -personally I dont care for it either

Answer #4

The problem is the way it’s taught. I hated history as well and it didn’t help that one of our history teachers would almost fall asleep standing up while he was telling us about the Crimean War… (the what??)

When I got to the ripe old age of 25 I found myself struggling to remember what I’d been taught, as I tried to figure out “how the world works.”

When you understand history, you have a better grasp of today’s world at many levels… of governments, wars, economy, social customs, employment… it’s true that we don’t need to know the exact date on which some treaty was signed, but it’s not bad excercise for the brain (Use it or lose it)

Keep in mind too, having an education makes you a much more interesting person to know :)
