Why do I have this side-effect?

I took my first prescribed anti-depressant today, citalopram, and one of the main side-effects I’m having is this severe bruxism (grinding of the teeth). I can’t help clamping my teeth hard together and I’m dying to bite something! My mouth keeps watering too, as if I’m going to vomit.

Is this normal? I read that it’s rare for patients to experience this when they take citalopram.

Answer #1

ask your doc for the short term fix. try a therapist to work out your problems instead of drugging yourself up. antidepressants are over prescribed

Answer #2

Agreed with ty, ask your psychiatrist or doctor about this.

Answer #3

call your psychiatrist now and leave her/him a message…

Answer #4

I dont know about that …but maybe you can try some chewing gums…

Answer #5

that might happen.. same thing as MDMA (Ecstasy).. the release of neurotransmitters causes muscles to contract then release, and they tend to get stiff. your Central Nervous system runs from your brain down your spine so the jaws always get it the worst… thats why people do it when they do coke, ecstasy, or meth.
