Why Do Christians...

Why do Christians use quotes from the bible to argue a point with a person who is not? They act as if we have no clue about the bible. Why do they threaten us with hell & damnation? We already know about that part & choose not to believe it, people constantly threatening & talking about it is not going to change our minds. Why do they tell people they need Jesus. Why do they tell us we need to read the bible? Has it occurred to them that we already have & have found no truth in it for us? We can match or even out match(if ya know what me mean) you on information about the bible, what it means, etc about the religion, did you know that? Why do Christians try converting those who have no desire to be Christian & yet b*tch that some people in that faith aren’t devoted enough or are would be’s, etc. Why don’t they spend more time trying to help those would be’s in your faith & leave those who are firmly planted outside the religion alone. Has it occurred to them that if we did “convert” we would not be devoted to that religion & would not truly be Christians, it’s not meant to be. If we were meant to be Christian we would find our path there. Why can’t they except the fact that not every one is not meant to be Christian. Why do Christians keep ragging on Dec 2012? The MAYAN calendar ends, so if anything happens it’s MAYAN profit not biblical. Besides, they can’t believe the end it near quite yet. According to biblical profit it would be the ending of this generation, still have a century. Heck, if it is the end in 2012 they’re screwed anyway’s. Supposedly the last 7 years(there seems ot be a connection, 7 years of hell on earth, 7 days of creation) of the world are going to be the worst, but the Christians & true believers are not going to be here to experience it. Jesus is going to take them from the earth & then arrive when human kind is most sesuptable to darkness. Seeing as how there’s still Christians around their Apocalypse still has yet to come. Which bring up another question…

A person can know the bible from front to back… and still not know the God of the bible.

Christians share their faith, because God commands them to do so, and because they care, and because they truly believe what the bible says… is true.

Each person does it differently.

There are no lessons.. on how to do it.

Please bear with those who irritate you… I am sure it is not intentional… if it is.. then, they need to get their heart right.

God offers salvation to everyone. He does not force anything on anyone. If his followers do, they are wrong.

We are to share what we believe to be true, and leave it up to the individual, as to what they do with it. It is the Holy Spirits job to convict of sin, it is our job to share the word. Forgive us for trying to do our job.

If you ever decide to embrace Christ, and his teachings.. he will be waiting.

I’ve never read a bible in my life, am completely happy having not wasted my time to answer your questions though I believe christains (mostly) talk about parts of the bible because they themselves cant explain in detail what they actually mean, they dont know the answer so they follow the book and quote from it thats how I think the whole “god thing began…back in the day people would beleive anything they were told, and they only way to answer unexplainable questions and events was to say that a higher power did it…and now thats the answer for everything “god” did it also with the mayans, were talking MANY years ago…they couldnt just make a never ending calender, it would eventually stop at some date, computers now do all the work for us, but back then calenders didnt go on forever, there was no need to keep counting I think though, that theres nothing wrong with beleiving in a higher power, as long as you dont force it down someone elses through, and accept other people for there beleifs…which rarely christians do

Answer #3

I always wondered that myself I think they just like to hear themselves talk and it makes them feel superior to tell everyone else that their wrong which is part of the reason I am not a christian

Answer #4

“A person can know the bible from front to back… and still not know the God of the bible. “

A person can also claim to know the God of the Bible without having actually read it.

Answer #5

“Why do Christians use quotes from the bible to argue a point with a person who is not? They act as if we have no clue about the bible.”

I have had that done to me on several occasions too…Its quite irritating actually…I think that they do it to prove their point and show you that whatever you said is wrong…

Answer #6

That’s a lot of questions! But the gist of the answer is, most Christians people don’t even know what it is they claim to believe and have never even read the Bible. But it makes them mad if you disagree with them. This is not unique to Christians.

An angry response to cordial disagreement is almost always a sign that someone’s position is poorly thought out and based on nothing of substance.

So, it should come as no surprise that people whose positions are based on muddled thinking would also use arguments designed to convince themselves rather than you. It’s a mess of cluelessness.

That said, there are plenty of Christians out there who do not fit this description. But I think the description fits the vast majority (which includes everyone, not just Christians).

lol

Answer #8

Some are all about the power trip, the “I’m right and your wrong so agree with me or burn” stance. Some of them honestly feel it is their personally duty to save you. Try and see things from their perspective. It is about the individual attitude. Why do you seem to have such a personal vendetta against a whole faith. Not all Christians are ignorant tyrant jerks. Live and let live.

Answer #9

unrelated to the question answerr nothing

Answer #10

its not just christians (though it seems like that lol) most if not all religions use the bible (or other books of worship) either in a negative or positive way for example christians would use it to prove that something is ‘true’ while atheists would use context from it to prove that something is ‘insanely wrong’

it goes both ways in every religious rivalry (if you want to call it that…)

Answer #11

Christain quote verses from the Bible to let you know what God says . As far as Dates no one knows he said he will come like a thief in the night . I use the bible not to argue it but , if thats what you want to do fine argue by yourself . As far as my Bible being a fairy tale you are wrong . I would like someone to show me where the Bible has been proven wrong .

I dont think you can .

Answer #12

I just want to remind you that just because you believe something does not mean that it is true.

…case in point.

Answer #13

A true follower of Christ will often choose to answer questions from a Biblical standpoint because the Word of God is the object of their study. The meaning of Scripture and the God who composed it are the main forces that permeate the life of a follower of Christ. As for your opinions regarding the Bible and Jesus Christ, I just want to remind you that just because you believe something does not mean that it is true. I believe in Jesus Christ because He has changed my life and given me purpose and direction. I challange you to study the word with an open mind and test it for youself to see if it is true. If you truly “seek God with all of your heart”, and he does not reveal himself to you, I will recant my faith.

Answer #14

You’re talking about the ‘Bad/Weak/FirstLevel Christians’ right?

It makes them feel important. As if they’re combating evil… or something like that…

Answer #15

Because the bible is God speaking- it’s his word. People are always saying Christians need to be more open minded but honestly no one is ever open minded when it comes to Christianity because their scared that we just might be right. As far as the 2012 date, (I’ll try not to quote the bible- just for you) Jesus said that no one knows the date and time that he will return except for God, so according to him 2012 would be the last date he would choose.

Well, sliverwings and mjax1979 are both right. A great Biblical knowledge is often a sign of an educated person, rather than a Christian. And some to come to know Jesus without a Bible - in areas where Bibles are limited or forbidden, some people have dreams in which they say Jesus appeared to them and from that minute they became Christians. However, Christians do need to study and know what the Bible really says, instead of guessing that it confirms their prejudices (I think that may be your real point, mjax 1979).

You’re angry, thex13thxchild, and I take your point even though I don’t entirely agree with it. Having had a discussion with filletofspam months ago on how Christians speak to non-Christians, I thought I’d check for Biblical evidence of how the early Christians spoke to those who had neither Jewish or Christian backgrounds. The only example I found was Acts 17: 13-64, when Paul was invited to address the Araeopagus when some philosophers heard him in debate.

So, first things first, Paul walked around amongst the philosophers and chatted, only taking ‘centre stage’ when he’d been invited. I was intrigued to notice that he then made several positive references to their own culture, and none to his own Scriptures. His listeners were philopsohers, and he described God in philosophical terms, rather than Jewish ones. He quoted their own poetry to make his point.

This makes me feel that it is not necessarily Biblical to ‘Bible-bash’ people! A question to Christians: How can we let people know about Jesus in a way that matters to them, instead of assuming that they’re going to have to do it on our terms?

However, thex13thxchild, Paul ends up with a pretty strident: ‘You’ve heard the truth, now what are you going to do about it?’ type of message. That’s not so much in my character - maybe I’m too keen to be liked. But it is true that Christians do have a duty to ‘preach Christ’, it’s just that maybe our style often owes more to our own cultural expectations and human weaknesses, rather than to the unconditional love of God.

Answer #17

This is a great question. If you ask me, people who spout quotes from the bible in this way do it because they cant argue their point and all they are left with is the regurgitation of bible quotes which they dont even fully understand.

For example I am going to use an extreme. Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church members. If you dont know who these people are you should check them out. They picket at the funerals of soldiers and homosexuals, chanting things like “god hates fags” and even at the sago mine disaster in Buckhannon, West Virginia they had posters saying “thank god for dead miners” I saw a program documentary about these people and their only method of argument was to quote scriptures. One girl on it said she was happy that the interviewer would “burn in hell for all eternity because he was a sinner” In my opinion these poeple are as Evil as they come.

I think that if you really understand god and you have faith then you wouldnt have to rely on quotes to explain your belief.

Answer #18

I’m a Christian and I’ve never used a quote from the bible to prove or argue something or whatever, because it seemed like a form of shoving my religion down their throats. And I just don’t do it because when people do it to me, it annoys me.

Answer #19

Ooh! Big promise there, prophet. But I take your point, Jesus said ‘Seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you’. I also like your phrase ‘from a Biblical standpoint’. I think all Christians should think thus. That doesn’t mean we will necessarily answer by quoting the Bible, just by holding it all the time in our own thinking.
