Why are people so judgemental of emos?

I wear a lot of dark clothes, have dark hair that goes in my face, sometimes look pissed off or depressed. All school year people were spreading it around that I’m emo, and maybe I am, I don’t know. But I go to a small school where everyone knows each other well, and there are no emos. Most people there are all preppy and b*tchy. I used to be able to fit in fine before I turned all “emo.” Now I really can’t find people at my school that will accept me for who I am, because they think that because I’m “emo” , I’m scary or something. People put me out there to be a depressed hateful cutter ( I know that’s not what emos are, that’s just what the people that judge me think), and not all emos are cutters either. I’m not going to change who I am just so people will like me more, but I right now I really don’t know what to do cause I’ve lost most of my friends because of this. I would just go and make new friends, find people that like me for who I am, but I’m kind of stuck in this small school, and can’t get out to meet people. So I have no idea what I should do. I not going to look and act like someone I’m not just to be accepted. People judge me on how I look without even getting to know me. I am now just considered “that emo kid.” There’s nothing wrong with being emo, but I don’t want to be friendless. How should I find people who don’t mind me being emo?

Answer #1

everybody is entitled to their own opinions. just love yourself dont worry about what no one else says b/c it all amounts to nothing in the end

Answer #2

jurst be your self :D

Answer #3

be yourself. it sucks being judged by others, tho. do you look or act approachable? you said that you look depressed and pissed off. that can’t help matters. the energy that you give off can be part of why you aren’t making friends.

Answer #4

We are all judgemental at one time or another. Like we’ll see a big person going down the street and we’ll think to ourselves “yeah, they’re big”, but we don’t know the story of them being big. They might be like my friend, who has to take tablets that make him put on weight.

But I’m not saying I agree with what everyone at your school is doing. Apparently, all “emos” are bad people. But I’m considered “emo” at times and “emo” can be nice people too.

It’s not what you are labelled as, it’s how good of a person you are that really matters to you and your loved ones. If your friends are calling you “emo” and “being mean” in a way, then they’re really not your friends and maybe you should consider making other friends.

I agree with the above comment: just try and be yourselves. That’s all we can do.

Hope this was okay advice =)

There’s nothing wrong if you’re an emo, as long as you do not degrade others, don’t mind them because that’s your life and they have no rights to instruct you of what you will be. Being an emo doesn’t need a dark clothes or hard make-up.., just be simple of being an emo!… Because I hate all emo who are so over emoted. & over reacting.

Answer #6

it,s not just emos it,s any 1 really people just need 2 grown the f*ck up

Answer #7

I thenk you should tell the people to get over themselvs and get ust to it becaus you rnt going to change just for them tell them that you r the same person in darker cloths thati is what I had to do andu rnt emo just caus you wear dark cloths so yeah really basec(?)

Answer #8

just try to show that you r a good person and who you r and maybe people will step out of their perfect lil world a realize there is nothin wrong with emo!! me– I like emo people!!! just people need to stop worryin about their reps and meets people!!!

Answer #9

well honestly, I dont know why they call you emo. they are total losers, because “emo” is a type of music, that is, until someone thought it would be smart to adopt it as a style. tell those people making fun of you that “there’s no such thing as emo…get a clue.” obviously they are not so big and popular if they dont even know that. labeling people as emo is gross…

as for the dark clothes and stuff? be yourself! don’t let them get in the way of you dressing how you want…they’re stupid…especially if theyre judging you before getting to know you.

Answer #10

okay, once apon a time I was labeled emo. I grew out of that stage fast, and I think people react negatively to it because if you look and act like theres problems then people assume you have problems. I think its best to be happy and not label yourself. people get pretty far into the emo fad, it creates a lot of problems, and I know this from experience.

Answer #11

I personally act like an “emo” sometimes but I cant dress like 1 because of my mom but I personally believe that people call peoples names 2 make them selves feel better and I HATE PREPPYS they are the evilest rudest people in my school their everywhere in my school and they are always around in their packs and they talk about every cool thing and always have the new stuff I mean some are nice 2 others but tons are not they are preppys because they have fabulos cloths and cells and everything else on the earth I personally like the goth and emo styles but many others dont because they think we’ll kill them or what eva
