Why do parents overreact?

okay. Why are most adults sooo upset when they found out something you did?? like when you get caught smoking..thats a big one..its like they didnt see it comeing..and then giving a consequence for it. I mean I see no point in it. If your child still wants to smoke they are still going to smoke..right?? well thats just an example. I guess what im asking is why dont parents let there kids do what they want..TO AN APPROPRIATE EXTENT..and let them serve lifes consequences later on in life..???

Uhm, I am so sorry people care about you, your life must really suck. Wow, I cannot imagine how hard it is for people to be upset at something you did that could harm you. How can you live with them. (oh and for the ignoramus out there, it’s called sarcasm).

It’s too bad there’s so many kids out there who want their parents to give a crap (like you know, notice if they came home or not), and you have those who take it for granted. Honestly, I have no idea why people care about spoilt little brats who dont appreciate what they have. I really dont get it. I’d just let them pay for their mistakes. I guess that’s the difference between a parent and someone who just doesnt care. Grow up. You have people who care about you, be grateful. You are sort of literate (apparently lack the ability to spell, but that is ok), you have access to a computer, and you probably live in a first world country. You werent sold into slavery, you dont work 16 hours a day for a dollar a day, you dont live in a mud hut, and you arent raped and tortured on a daily basis. Life could be a lot worse.

That is because they are parents and their job is to protect you (I’m using “you” as a vague term), set you up for the best life possible. They want to prevent those future consequences (which can be harsh and unforgiving).

Of course, if the son/daughter does not want to change his/her actions, he/she will not, but it is difficult for a parent to simply step aside and let something that they do not want to happen. Like smoking, as an example. What I’m trying to say is that they “overreact” as you put it, because they care. I personally would not want my parents to not give a damn about me, my health, or my future.

Answer #7

god I know what you mean. it like you cant have a say you were young once get over it, it’s my life not yours if I want to smoke I will if I want to have sex il have sex if I want to go out I will they are so annoying. they over react because they think it gives them power in their house but it makes them look stupid and it shows signs of LACK OF PARENTING and they know that so they try to act hard and disaplin. we rebel making argument and making it crap for the rest of the house hold which I think is brillient!!! what they need to learn is, is to shut up and go away and leave us to do our own little thing.
