Why are my kittens dead?

My kittens are around 1 week old now. My cat Kimchi gave birth to 7 of them. 1st, one of them died a couple of days ago. And today my boyfriend told me 3 more of them died. I want to know what is going on.

Does the mom cat ever kill their own babies??? Is it possible that they suffocate by laying in a big pile smushing each other?

Only your Vet can tell you for sure. They could have been born to early. The Mom’s milk could have been bad. ( I have had to feed a whole litter of Boxer pups before) There could have been worms in the kittens.

Only if you wanted to spend the money for the Vet to do an austopy would you really know. If the Mom did not eat the kittens in the time they were being born (very uncommon, but happens) I really don’t think she killed them.

If the Mom rejects the kitten the are many reasons why.

Do get any remaining kittens to the Vet.

I lost a whole litter of 11 Boxer pups once, broke my heart. They were born to early. The mom went into labor too early because of it being th 4th of July and the firecrackers had her so panicked. If puppies are born any earlier then 60 days they will die. Lungs aren’t developed. I retired the Mom after that. I wouldn’t put here through that again.

Yes, mother cats will kill their young if something is wrong with them; survival of the fittest.

Your cat shouldn’t be giving birth anyways, she should be fixed!

Answer #3

It could be a birth defect, generally if one kitten has one the rest do. If you have any left you should get them to the vet.

Answer #4

maybe those kittens werent being fed properly she could have rejected them as well but its hard to tell

Answer #5

yup my cat laid on hers and they can suffacate laying on each other too try moving them into a bigger space if she is comfortable with you being near her

if you and a lot of people are near where she is she will try to protect them and kill them I ts not uncommon for mother cats to eat them whole when they are small

my cat had hers behind a wall and they tangled together and died

Answer #6

If it was first litter, the mother may not have gotten her milk in…her teats may have been clogged, birth defects…there’s a liteny of possibilities…Get some kitty replacer milk, and a bottle…and start feeding the stronger ones, and see if they come around…They absolutely need to eat every two hours in order to survive…

I doubt the mama killed them…
