Why are Democrats finding it so difficult to pass legislation?

Obama and the Democrats have 60 seats for god’s sake. I have no idea why they can’t pass important things like healthcare reform.

Political experts please enlighten us :P

Answer #1

Based on there bias, Really its all based on there prespective beacause they have concepts that support why its so hard for them to pass legislations bills. In simpler words they have some requirements implemented in their brains that say what should and shouldn’t be passed in legislation.

Answer #2

Look have you read the health reform. Its not as good as democrats in tv make it sound. I dont believe in it and neither some democrats and thats why they are having problems passing the reform!!

Answer #3

Democrats don’t actually have 60 seats in the Senate. There are 58 Democrats and 2 Independents who caucus with the Democrats. Senator Liberman is one of the independents and he made it clear that if he didn’t like the bill he would join the Republicans and filibuster it.

Democrats are not necessarily liberal. Democrats from small Southern states are often more conservative than Republicans from large coastal or great lake states. Conservative Democrats have the same ideological opposition to entitlement programs that conservative Republicans do.

Another problem is that healthcare reform will be limited to the lowest common denominator of what the 58 Democratic and 2 Independent Senators can agree on. Changing the bill to keep Lieberman and conservative Democrats onboard threatened to weaken it so much that the liberal wing of the Democatic party will no longer support it.

Answer #4

…or maybe Congress has properly recognized that a large fraction of the US population does not want their Insurance Company Full Employment Act passed.

Answer #5

The thing is that they’re blaming all this on Obama…it’s showing in his approval ratings, but really its Congress that are screwing up.

Answer #6

Too much special interest money…and too many on both sides of the aisle are essentially bought and paid for at this point (nancy polosi, etc)…the nice thing in the US is we can follow the money (literally) the sad thing is most people don’t take the time to do so.
