Who works for a non for profit or government agency ?

Last year I graduated from college w/ a Business Management/Entrepreneurship degree. After reviewing my resume an accounting professor offered me a FULL RIDE for a Master of Science in Accounting & an assistantship due to my lack of accounting/finance.

For now, I know that I would like to go into Non for profits as a Business Developer/Manager, Operations Coordinator, Program Assistant, which I have realized that some of them want accounting/finance experience … how extensive I’m not sure yet. But I do know how to use Excel.

I’ve researched a bit of why people get a MSA’s and I don’t want to be an accountant or deal w/ only numbers in my future career. However, I feel that the MSA could make me a more knowledgeable manager, more competitive if I chose to work internationally and would prepare me to take the CPA exam so I would always have that to fall back on.

On the other hand I don’t want to appear as being over-qualified once I make the transition into non-for-profits/government agencies.

So should I take the FREE MSA ?

I welcome all advice, suggestions and/or questions.

Thanks!

You dont want to appear overqualified? Given the economic situation, you’re not likely to find a good job right now, and any and all qualifications will help when the economy does start to get better… you might want to keep in mind that a lot of people are going back to school right now because they want to avoid facing the job market, you know what that means… more people will be more qualified in a couple of years… I’m not going to tell you what to do, but think about it…
