Who's the right guy for me, best friend or ex boyfriend?

My ex and I split up a few months ago, he dumped me by texting my best friend whist we were skiing (harsh, I know), I thought he still liked his ex (so did my friends) and she blatently wanted him back (she wasn’t subtle - in the slightest) and so we broke up. Recently I’ve spend a lot of time with him and got on with him better than ever. We talk about things we never talked about before, he makes me laugh over the stupidest things and when he looks at me my heart flips (cheesy). He told me he wants me back and each time he looks at me he regrets what he did. Yet, how can I believe him. He’s told all of his mates that he wants me back and how much he loves me (like his ex - he’s not subtle) and how he thinks he’s made the biggest mistake of his life yaddayaddaya!! The ex isn’t in the picture and according to mutual friends he never did want her back. Anyway, my best friend in the whole word (yes,whole wide world) told me he’s in love with me. He’s the only person who I can really talk to and he’s the person I’m happiest when I’m with. Yet since his outburst of affection, things have been a bit heated and we now argue (where as we never did). He can see a fairytale in the making but I don’t know if I can. Right now I’m so confused and I don’t know what to do. I should probably stay away from the ex but he makes me feel so great and my best friend he’s amazing he loves me even through my faults and I love him through his - but would it work out? Please help, what do you think is the right thing to do?
