Who here knows what a theory is in science?

So, I’m not going to get into exactly why I’m asking because it will detract from my actual question. Nonetheless it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out why I’m asking.

I would like to see how many people actually know what a theory is when used in science.

Answer #1

a THEORY is an idea that you test using a HYPOTHESIS, that’s like… 7th grade!

Answer #2

A theory is far far more than just and idea.

Answer #3

A theory is an idea.

Answer #4

A theory has had experiments behind it. It explains why or the way something works or why it is. It has fact behind it. Many time a theory remains a theory because the experiments needed to make it fact is unable to be performed. Example: theory of evolution. Evolution it self is fact but the path it has taken on earth is the theory. It takes too much time (1000000”s of years). With Gravity we have no where we can test that has no gravity at all. Both these theories have considerable amounts of evidence and fact behind them.

Answer #5

a theory is an explanation for a hypothesis and it tells why something happens. a thory can change.
