Where are these white gnats coming from?

Have a white gnat problem. Lots of them flying around yard. Looks like white fuzz, but if you look closley they have a tiny green body. Do not bite, however very annoying. Please help me get rid of these buggers. Any suggestions as to what they may be or be coming from? have lots of shrubbery and trees in yard. Thank you for any response.

sounds like you have an AMERICAN ALDER PSYLLID problem, my friend calls them “lint bugs” which I guess is pretty close. don’t know how to get rid of them- but naming your problem is the first step. AMERICAN ALDER PSYLLID- you might be able to find something to combat them at a home and garden store. good luck.

there is one more possible suspect here- WOOLEY APPLE APHID, these would be smaller than the psyllids I believe. these aphids feed on apple trees, hawthorn, mountain ash, pear , quince and sometimes elm trees. if these are the culprit- should be easy to get some aphid pesticide.

White gnats are attracted to sap from plants … try spraying plants down with diluted dish soap.
