Answer #1

This very thing happened to me from the moment of my first date with my future wife. My family has never liked my wife from the start and didn’t hesitate to say so. All they manged to do was drive both of us away. I love my wife dearly and consider her my best friend as well as wife. I no longer even speak to my family and they lost us because of their own ignorance. I have no regrets and wouldn’t hesitate if faced with the same situation again, I’m happy and their not! Who won and who lost!

Seeing as you’re what? 16, 17? You dont need to be choosing btwn boyfriend and mom. I’m 17 and I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 2 years and my parents dont like it, but they dont make me choose.

I think you need to sit down with your mom and talk to her, shes putting down this ultimadum (spelling?) because youre growing up and shes worried. because she loves you. talk to her, tell her how you feel about him. offer to hang out with her with your boyfriend. movie night, whatever. I know it might be awkward but thats what I did.

and if she still doesnt accept him and wants you to ditch him then..well…dont ditch your mom. youre stuck with your mom for life, this boyfriend is a passing thing. youre not getting married, right? ok, well then why give up your mom for him? your mom is going to be there when you get married, when you have your kids, dude shes going to be the grandmother to your children. I wouldnt screw that up, honestly.

I’m with stephanie, and not just with parents vs. person you love, but in general… anyone who is making me choose doesnt have me in their interests, they’re being selfish… however, when it comes to parents, is there a good reason she is saying this?

Answer #4

thank you stephanief987!! you made my decision much more clearly now!

any other advice would be deeply appreciated!!

~thnx u.

Answer #5

I would tell the person that I loved that im not choosing and that he better accept that or I will choose my family

Answer #6

You should never have to choose - and if so, the one trying to make you choose doesn’t deserve a place in your life because that’s selfish.

Answer #7

I would choose the one you love. I wouldn’t be easily persuade.

Like wha… sweetcheeks10051… said you shouldn’t have to choose. They need to let you live your life the way you want.. My mom HATES my boyfriend. Me and him have been together about 2 years now and she’s hated him since day one.. but that hasn’t stopped me from being with him. I let her know that I love him but I want to know what its like to be in love despite what kind of person he is on the outside. Just as long as he treats you good your mom shouldn’t make you choose.

I’m practically choosing the one I love over my own family sad to say.. but you should know deep down your family would never abandon you.. they just say that to see what you’ll do my mom does it all the time..

so if I were you.. make the decision you think is best for you. I don’t know your mom or what she’s like, but follow your heart.

best of luck.
