When is the earliest a dog should have puppy?

I just got a new puppy chihuahua tonight and she is BEAUTIFUL !!! She’s barely 2 months as of today [June 08 2008].

The problem is, I have a male chihuahua and he is almost 1 year old and loves to hump cats and dogs trying to get some action. [he failed of course because I have 2 HUGE dogs] and felines? c’mon now.

I don’t want my new puppy to get pregnant for another COUPLE YEARS [at least 2] because that’s just messed up if it did…

How do I prevent this?

Get them both fixed. Chihauhua’s are the fastest little humpers in the doggie kingdom and he will have her before you know it. It won’t matter with a Chihuahua if she is in heat or not, he will hump anyway. This is because it sounds like you haven’t broke him of the habit. (Mine or broke from doing this)

Get your male fixed. He will be a much cleaner nicer and fun dog. Unfixed males are nasty! They have to mark furniture and your purse and hump on things. Fix both dogs and ask for a discount! People ask for discounts and they will give them. If not call another Vet’s office.

OH well first and always first check the Vet’s prices, while some are reasonable, some will take you to the cleaners! Than say I have two dogs that need fixing one spayed and one neutered, “How much and since I have two how much will you discount that price for me. Since I am a good citizen doing the right thing.

Answer #3

I don’t want my dogs fixed…and my male dog doesn’t hump everything like purses ,furnitures, people’s legs like a lot of other dogs…In fact, I don’t really even catch him humping stuff or my other pets. Just once in a while he’d hump my fat dog and this male cat.

Answer #4

If you don’t want your dogs to be fixed then you need to own dogs of the same sex. There is already a huge population of homeless dogs. Just because your male dog doesn’t hump everything is a poor excuse for not getting him fixed. It is your job as the owner to be responsible. Remember they are animals and have instincts.. the one thing programmed into their brains is SURVIVAL which means repopulating. He WILL try to breed her if you keep them unsupervised and as soon as she’s physically matured enough to breed she will.

Answer #5

If you don’t want puppies, have her spayed at 6 months, so you don’t have to worry about it. If you’re planning on breeding at sometime down the road, then you better get a crate and a leash…and be ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY commited to never letting her off the leash when she’s not crated during the three weeks she’ll be in heat…that adds up to approximately 12 weeks, or 3 months for the next 2 years…3 weeks every 6 months.

Answer #6

DO NOT LET YPUR DOG BREED AT MONTHS! That is when they are able to breed, but quite offten, especially in small dogs, they are not fully developed, and have difficult deliveries. Wait until she is 2 years. Have some homes lined up before she even gets pregnant. It shouldn’t be to hard if the parents are really cute.

Answer #7

look at her!

Answer #8

shots to prevent it TEMPORARILY?? I don’t really want to have her take shots because it might harm her in future pregnancy…

Answer #9

look at her!
