tattoo’s hurt. They are earned not given. If there was no pain to them everyone would have at least 1. Also, some artists will not do names of girl friends, boy friends or spouses for that matter. Kids are a different story. Your spouse may not always be your spouse, your boy / girl friend may not always be your boy / girl friend.

also, think of getting a shot from your doctor, the average needle they use. Getting a tattoo uses the same needle, with 5 smaller needles in it, this particular needle is used for the outline, when they do color, or fill it in with black they switch to a needle which has seven needles in it…

For a comparison: Im a 6ft 290 lb rugby player, I have a little meat and a lot of muscle on me. I have several tattoos. My first was on my upper arm, it felt like someone was scraping me with a staple. I got my second one down my leg, wraps around my thigh and over my shin. That felt like someone was digging into my bone with a chisel, since there is very little “meat” or muscle on the front of the shin.

My girlfriend since my freshman year of highschool, got the same piece of art tattooed on her thigh and shin like me. She equated it to giving birth to our first child. when you tattoo areas with fat or muscle they will hurt less. The most painful part is the ribs, followed by the shin or neck. But everyone is differnt, what hurts to you may not hurt me, but what hurts me, may not hurt you.

Eventually endorphins will kick in, and the tattoo needles will feel more annoying than painful.

Back to the item of getting his name tattooed on you. Why? b/c the relationship was amazing? b/c he was a complete tool, and you want to remind yourself to do better?

Pick a piece of artwork that represents that. and get it in a place that it fits well with a flows well.

For one, lose the caps. No one wants you screaming a question at them. You might think it would get you more answers because more people will see it, but quite the opposite happens. You turn people away. Seriously, stop the yelling.

Also, don’t post this question up slightly rephrased hoping to get new answers. I deleted your other question because it was a duplicate.

As for the question at hand, of course it’s going to hurt. Tattoos never feel good or lack pain. That’s where the permanence comes from. With you though, I’d be less concerned with the pain and more concerned for your sanity. You’re 16 and you want your EX boyfriend’s name on your body? Forever? Even getting your boyfriend’s name would be ludicrous, but your ex…? I STRONGLY advise against ANYONE getting a tattoo of ANYONE ELSE’S name on their body unless it is a family member or a deceased loved one. Even husband and wives should avoid it because you never know if you will actually be with that person forever. It’s a dumb mistake that far too many people make. Don’t let yourself be one of those people.

If you are set in getting the tattoo despite the (sorry to say it) stupidity of it all, you will feel pain. Think of someone taking a needle and poking you thousands of times a minute. Now picture that pain lasting for several minutes - blood dripping - very few breaks - tears rolling down your face potentially. It’s nothing like a piercing. That takes a couple of seconds and stings. This is like a scraping feeling, and your hip is straight bone. It’ll hurt really bad there. I got a tattoo on my lower back when I was 18 and cried…literally. Everyone reacts differently, but I’m telling you, it’s not pleasant.

Think long and hard before you get something on your body that you can’t get rid of.

not sure if youve had a tattoo before and if you have some of what im saying you will already know, if not, just trying to help :) im 14 and i got a tattoo in that area. its quite a large butterfly on my side. the top of the wing starts level to a few inches above my belly button and the bottom of the wing ends just underneath my hip. one of the most sensitive places to get tattooed is between the hips and on the hip and especially the ribs. anyone who says it doesnt hurt a bit is a straight up liar < the very words of the person who done my tattoo who is obviously covered in them. the black ink hurts on the rib area the most and a little on the hip but the colour is easy to sit through compared to the black because the needle doesnt go as far into your skin. the black needle has something like five needles going into one, and the colour has around 7 and hurts a lot less. you can get numbing cream for tats and piercings, i didnt bother because i wanted the full experience :) it was in memory of my nan and was done on the anniversary of her passing and my mom got the exact copy of my tat on her shoulder blade after id had mine done, it took an hour to do hers and two and a half hours to do mine. simply because the skin isnt as tight and you breath and tense up a lot on your ribs and hip which makes it a pain to tattoo for the artist because you move so much. so its a long time to sit through. totally worth it :) hope this helped you and random others that read it :)
