What's the most scientific way to explain what "accuracy" is?

Many friends ask me that, and I know what it is but I have a hard time explaining it o them. Any suggestions of how can I explain it

Answer #1

I guess you could define it as how close to being true something is. Like the number pi for example. It’s not just 3.14 or 3.1416, but a number that goes on forever. So those two numbers could sort of be true, but they wouldn’t be as accurate as pi to 100 or 200 places would be.

Answer #2

The accuracy of a measurement describes how close it is to the ‘real’ value. This real value need not be very precise; it just needs to be the ‘accepted correct value’.
