whats p's & q's

I’ve heard - and I prefer - the “Pints and Quarts” version before, although the “Peace and Quiet” is a (doubtvul) possibility.

P’s and Q’s stands for Peace and Quiet so really when someone says mind your P’s and Q’s theyre pretty much saying mind your manners

Never actually heard what or if they were to mean anything. I was always told when I was little—‘you’d better watch your p’s and q’s, young lady!’ just another way for parents, grandparents to say—be on your best behavior, tow the line.etc

Well being irish, I grew up learning “p’s and q’s” as “pints and quarts” meaning alcohol.

When people went out to a bar to drink and what not somebody would be eavsdropping and mentioned something to you that you said, or try to start a conversation with you, or join the conversation, or even comment. So in return to them saying something you would say “mind your p’s and q’s”. To hint to get out of your business.

P’s & Q’s means manners, but it also means Peace & quiet. So technically mind your manners & be quiet. lol.
