What's the best guitar tuner to get?

I’m just learning, and need something to tune with. I don’t want to spend a huge amount, but, don’t want to take the chance on the 3.00 ones on ebay. Any suggestions as to a brand?

Either a Yamaka or a built in to a SUZUKI guitar!!!

The Sabine ST-1100 is very accurate but a little pricey. Another one I like (only about 25 bucks) is the Intellitouch PT-2. It clamps in the guitar head and picks up the string vibration as you tune and has no external mic, so other noises such as people talking or even playing their instrument won’t interfere with it I highly recommend that one.

If you have a piano, tuning fork, or pitch pipe you can tune to that. With a piano I tune the low E string with the E on the piano below middle C. Once it is in tune press your finger on the 5th fret of the E String to play an A then tune the A string to that pitch. Putting your finger on the 5th fret of the A string makes D to tune the next string and similarly pressing the 5th fret of the D string produces G to tune the G string. B is only a third higher than G so to tune the B you press on the 4th fret of the G string but the E is a forth above B so press the 5th fret of the B string to give you E to tune the high E string. As a check play the low and high E strings to make sure they sound in tune. Note that if you are just playing by yourself that your guitar only has to be in tune with itself. If the pitch is consistently flat or sharp across all the strings your guitar will still sound in tune. You only have to tune your guitar to a standard pitch when you are playing with other instruments. Electronic tuners make tuning faster and easier you should learn to tune your guitar without one. I have a no-name metronome/tuner that works fine; I like ones with a large screen. You shouldn’t have to pay more than $30 for a good tuner/metronome. The only tuner I had that didn’t work at all was one that came free with a violin I bought.

Usually people start playing with a junky old guitar. So if you haven’t gotten a nice one yet, I’d suggest getting one win a built in tuner when the times comes =)

Answer #5

It’s actually a decent guitar. Its a Dean EvoXM. Got that and an amp for 100 bux from a friend of a friend. Eventually (once i actually get good at it) that information will come in handy! I didn’t know guitars had built in tuners.
