acetone is what gets the nail polish. but too much can damage ur nails

Answer #3

Acetone is the main ingredient in nail polish remover. So im guessing it makes removing nail polish easier

Answer #4

Acetone is a solvent. A transparent, flammable liquid. It’s chemical formula is (CH3)2CO.

If the nail polish remover does not have acetone, it must have another solvent. Because you need something to dissolve the nail polish in nail polish remover, obviously.

There are solvents that are healthier than acetone and there are solvents that are less healthy than acetone. So you should find out what solvent your acetone-free nail polish uses and look it up - for example at wikipedia.

The main problem with acetone are the vapors. They are bad for you. So you can buy and use it without damaging your health if you open the windows and don’t bend over your nails while cleaning them.

Acetone will make your skin dry, because it also dissolves the fat in your skin. So you will need a skin lotion if you use acetone nail polish remover. Acetone can also make the surface of your nails rough.

If you inhale acetone, it can cause, bronchial irritation, headache and dizziness. It can be narcotic at very high doses. That’s why you should open the windows. When you use it a lot and on large surfaces - for example using it at school at the cleaning day before school vacations to remove all scribbling from the desks can knock people out.

As a former nail tech, I will keep it brief…we have all grown up on using acetone to remove nailpolish because it was the only product out there. Over the years studies showed how damaging the cheap bottle of acetone was for our nails & created ways to remove nail polish w/out causing all that damage to our nail beds. They called it nail polish remover or non acetone nail polish remover!

Acetone, should not be used on nails…it dries & causes the nails to be brittle causing it to chip/tear/break & over time will ruin the nail. Some nail polish removers can actually help your nails because some include gelatin/aloe and moisturizers. Find the best one for you by actually reading the label rather then finding the cheapest one on the market!

well the one i just ran out of is sally hansen extra strength with vitamin e. what is your opinion on sally hansen polish remover? good?

Answer #10

I think its great for the public…has extra strength & vit E..win win! In our field I guess each tech works with different products…especially when using a lot of acrylics & gels I basically used products bought from special companies in the business.
Like cnd(crative nail design) & OPI as well as many others. Each product is different we use soak off gel products, rather then nailpolish removers! All in all, as long as it isnt acetone your already doing better for your nails! :)
