Hey, to stop the sizzle a bit, let me put my two cents in. No matter where you download something from, be it Limewire, BearShare, RapidShare, Isohunt, BTJunkie, etc…you’re going to have a risk. The fact is that when you get something online, you never know who it is really from. They might say it’s great, wonderful quality, bla bla bla, but you just NEVER know.

I download torrents a lot though, and as long as I checked the comments and ratings for the movies, music or whatever, I haven’t had issues. The quality sucks a lot of the time, but that’s what the comments are for. People will say 7/10 or something so that you know not to expect perfection. You just get what you can take really. Don’t EVER expect something that’s great quality. Look for the worst and if you get something good, be happy about it.

The question was about legal stuff though. Again, you never know what you’re going to get. It might be copywritten; it might not. If you don’t want any risks at all, I would say to just stream movies and shows from the internet. That way you aren’t saving anything to your computer at all. For shows, hulu.com allows you to watch a ton of different things online from your favorite TV series. For movies, I know that justin.tv has streaming movies a lot. I’ve never looked much beyond those though because I just take the risk and download torrents.

If you decide to take the risk as well, I can tell you what I do. If you don’t have Bittorent, go to bittorrent.com and download it. That’s the program I use to get all of my torrents. All that does though is allow you to download stuff to your computer. You have to find the actual torrents for the movies, music, shows or whatever from the internet. I only go to isohunt.com or btjunkie.com to get my torrents because usually those are the ones that have enough seeders on there for the torrent to go through. What are seeders you may ask? Seeders are the people who have the file on there computer for you to download from. The more seeders there are, the faster the file will download. The seeders on isohunt are noted in the ‘’S’’ column. I just click on that so it will show me the ones with the highest seeders first.

You can see how many people have left positive reviews and stuff on there, so make sure to read those. You can skip a lot of hassle that way. I only go for torrents with positive feedback. Period.

Something you need to be aware of is that a lot of internet providers monitor people downloading pirated stuff. If you live on a college campus, you have to worry about even more people watching after that. I got in trouble with my university because I downloaded stuff from the university internet in my dorm. Just be mindful of that. Your internet provider can still track it though. I had a friend almost get his internet service cutoff because Suddenlink tracked him down.

Wo, I wrote a novel, but long story short, you can’t trust that anything will be legal or good quality. You just gotta cross your fingers and hit that little download button. Good luck! :)

‘’stuff that is pirated isnt low quality, wont contain viruses if you read teh comments and wont get you in trouble if you use protection ::|’’

I hope you know what your talking about here, After all pirated things aren’t limited to downloads from torrent websites. Pirated things also include movies that people take straight from the theater and burn onto a cd and then sell it to the public. That should tell you that pirated things can be low quality.

Pirated things won’t contain viruses? Alright so if you download something from a random website that says its a movie or something of similar nature you can guarantee there isn’t a virus attached to the download? Also you just contradicted yourself when you said that limewire is 65% viruses and then you said that pirated things don’t have a virus? Do you need a definition of what pirated things are? Do you know that people can mask viruses as attachments to a download, guess not.

Things that go against a copyright law are known as copyright infringement, those things are commonly referred to as ‘’pirated’’ so how can you not get in trouble from downloading something that is pirated?

‘’people just dont have a clue sometimes.. im sorry but thats what I think!’’ Thats a wonderful assumption I guess.

‘’thepiratebay’’ that should tell you enough that what that website is doing is illegal. Getting stuff from there will surely get you in trouble it is pirated and anything that is pirated is low quality, can contain viruses, and will get you in trouble with the law.

Answer #4

Limewire is not more legal. The movies and music on there are not supposed to be shared. There is no website you can subscribe to and download any amount of movies and music free that is legal.

Answer #5

ok you all herd what happened to the blokes that owned the pirate bay? obviously not… yet fito asked for something legal :S

FYI…

Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström were found guilty of assistance to copyright infringement and sentenced to one year in prison and payment of a fine of 30 million SEK (app. 3,620,000 USD; 2,385,000 GBP; or 2,684,000 EUR), after a trial of nine days.
