What this mean the best place to hide something is in plain sight?

It means that some things are easier to hide if you don’t try hiding them.

An Example: In the University of Cologne, Germany they had purchased a new and very expensive projector for the largest auditorium. One day, before class started, some guys with blue overalls came in with a ladder and removed the projector. There were several dozens of students in the room, waiting for the bell to ring. Nobody asked the blue-overall-men what was wrong with the projector. When the professor came and wanted to use the projector, students told him it has been removed by craftspeople. A week later, the professor asked administration, when the projector will be re-installed. But they had not ordered the projector to be repaired. In fact, the “craftsmen” had been thieves. And, though there had been dozens of eye-witnesses, they could not get a usable description of the thieves. Most students just remembered ‘three guys in blue overalls’. They could not even remember approximate size or even hair color of the thieves.

Another example. In Bonn, Germany, police arrested a gang of youths who had been caught watering their marihuana-plantation. In a flower-bed in the middle of a roundabout on a main road. The boys admitted that they had been doing this for 3 years. They said that municipal gardeners had been cutting their weed with a lawnmower at least four times per year. They didn’t smoke or sell the drugs. They just wanted to see if they could do that. And if anyone would notice. Apparently the entire town had been blind for 3 years. (Don’t try this at home, look into your states laws! In Germany, a youth will have to do 30 hours of charitable work for a ‘crime’ like this. In fact, judges considered a stupid prank. Some other countries are merciless with drug-owners.)

So that’s it. You sneak in secretly at night, you get caught. You bluntly walk in through the front door, you look like you belong there. No one bothers.
