What religion am I?

Today I had a talk to my step dad about a show that was about evolution. I told him I believe in evolution, but I also believe in God. He then said that if you belive in god, then you believe in Adam and Eve. But I dont believe in them, I believe in evolution from monkeys and such. Is there a religion for God and Evolution, or can I believe in both. (I am actually catholic, but dont believe in Adam and Eve)

Answer #1

But that is not what science shows us. All life, including humans, evolved from the first single cell life that first appeared on Earth 4 billion years ago. Scientific evidence does not support the idea the human race started with just two people.

The story of adam and eve does not have to be, and shouldn’t be, taken litterally.

Answer #2

well he got the point across and I liked it. it made me think about adam and eve evolving them selves

Answer #3

My friend, please be assured that evolution and the Bible can peacefully co-exist. There is one difference, however, in how most “Biblical evolutionists (BE)” believe and how you believe. BEs read that God made everything, including man, as a SEPARATE species (so man never was a monkey), but the 7 days could be many millions of years. Now, to explain the man part of it. When Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, do you think they immediately went out and built a house and planted gardens and grains? Of course not! They didn’t know how to do this. They lived in caves and hunted animals and gathered food from existing plants. Later on, they developed things like fire, the wheel, writing, etc., began saving seeds to plant their own crops, and moved from caves into tents and, eventually, into buildings. This took a long time, and is the basis of the evolutionary fossils of men. We, and all species, are still evolving to this day.

Don’t feel bad about your beliefs! Just remember, though, that there IS a Heaven and a Hell, and only one way to get into the former.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH the Lord Jesus, AND SHALT BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

For anyone who doubts the existence of God, when you’ve had a week of completely cloudy weather, do you begin to say that the sun or the moon no longer exist? Of course not! Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they cease to be. God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus have all, at one time, been visible to men in one form or another. Just because you don’t see them now doesn’t mean they no longer are.

Peace to all!

Answer #4

You’re actually a Deist. The religion is Deism.

Answer #5

The best answer yet? Based on what? He said he believes that Adam and Eve actually existed. That means he doesn’t believe in evolution, regardless of what he says.

Answer #6

Leave your best friend alone, their only trying to help. They don’t have to prove it, they gave a great if not best answer yet. Thank you yourbestfriend

I never said he no longer exists. I say he never existed. I can’t see santa, the easter bunny, or little green martians. Does that mean they still exist too. Your logic is quite flawed.

God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus have all, at one time, been visible to men in one form or another.

Prove it…

Answer #8

For the people who don’t believe in evolution, and that I’m going to hell , it’s not like I totally diacard god. After all, HE DID create everything, so with him making monkeys, and them evolving, he therefor made people. So yes I believe he did make us, but we used to be monkeys. So I’m not going to hell, I pray every night and believe in him fully, but I believe we came from monkeys. And don’t say there is no proof, because there is no proof of Adam and eve either.

Answer #9

Sarfaraz. You are actaully in contradiction and taking the bible literal.

You can beleive in Both it comes down to the one simple statmenet of God Created everything in 7 days. We do not know what GOD figured was 7 days. This “7 days” could be the entire evolutionary period leading up to Human. God gave us reasonable intelligence for a reason; to use it. People who deny reasonable truth (Evolution) are living a contradiction. GOD gave us our intellect to use not ignore.

Also, as Catholic you don’t really follow the Old Testament. Its the reason as catholics you can eat pork/shellfish and Jewish people cannot.

Contemporary Catholic biblical scholars tell us that the stories found in the book of Genesis are not meant to be a source of historical or scientific fact as we understand those terms today. Rather, they are meant to convey religious truth. In the words of one Catholic spiritual leader, “the purpose of the Bible is not to tell us how the heavens go, but how to go to heaven.”

Answer #10

Please don’t listen to people like ejoydancer5794. Evolution is not a belief. It is a proven scientific phenomena. Anyone who thinks we did not evolve, does not know what they are talking about. Most christians do not think we sprang out of the ground with a wave of god’s hand.

Answer #11

The catholic church has officially recongnized evolution as a valid science, and accepts genesis as alegorical. It is only a small group of narrow-minded christians who believe the story of genesis to be literally true, and deny any science that proves it is not.

Answer #12

if you belive in GOD than why you don’t belive in his saying? he completely cleared in bible and Quran that Adam and Eve are his creation and they are starter of all human beings if you don’t belive in that it means you don’t belive in GOD

Answer #13

what if you believe in like water… like water and mother nature control the moods of the earth.. and god is only a word slapped on things that can’t be explained…what am I? haha

Answer #14

im an atheist, personally. but I believe that theres something out there that started molecular evolution. not a god as in a living, intelligent being, but more like a semi-intelligent force that created first matter, and then evolution took hold. just my opinion.

Answer #15

I think your classified an agnostic. your unsure of your religion, or believe in something that does not fit into other religions.

Answer #16

If you believe in God then why dont you believe in what he says that doesnt make sense and no there is not you cannot believe in both things if you died right now at this moment you would die and athesit and go to hell and burn because you dont believe in him truly you believe people came from monkeys then you burn for eternity

Answer #17

Well, im the same way. I’m Christian (Catholic in fact) and I believe that evolution is likely. I also think Adam and Eve could have existed. The point is, I don’t think the details like that really matter. I think what matters is that we believe that God created us and the world, and that we are thankful and take care of it now. Exactly how everyhthing came to be is kind of irrelevant, in my opinion, I just believe that God created it. :) Hope I helped

Answer #18

guy before me is right..I like to call it realistic… if you call yourself catholic…and you don’t believe in adam and eve..or certain teachings..then they label you as a cafeteria catholic..as in you pick and choose what you want to believe in. even though the books that are put in the catholic bible have been picked and chosen from other books… this is why I am a realistic too..haha

Answer #22

Answer #23

Thank you, mowen41! No, I don’t know everything, but what I explained to you is how I believe after much studying. I’m glad it helped you, even if it was a little bit. That’s what we’re here for, after all, isn’t it—to provide people with enough information that they can make their own decisions? You will probably change your views many times during the course of your lifetime, as you’re exposed to more ideas. My best advice is to never stop questioning! Hugs to you! :)

Answer #24

First, let’s assume that you’re talking about the Judeo-Christian version of God. After all, there are many religions that use a single god but don’t follow the Christian Bible and therefore don’t believe in the Garden of Eden and the Genesis story of Creation. But it sounds like that’s where your faith is grounded.

There is nothing that says you cannot believe in God and still believe in evolution. Millions of modern Christians are able to incorporate both into their faith. For one thing, it is not mandatory to accept the Bible as the literal truth of the history of the world. Some would argue that that’s the only way it was meant to be read, but others argue that it’s merely a series of allegories and parables intended to condense the trials of life into easily taught stories.

And so was the story of Genesis meant to LITERALLY tell the story of the creation of the planet? Up to you. It’s your faith.

This does not at all mean you have to accept being agnostic, as some people here have suggested. You have clearly stated that you believe in God, so ‘’agnostic’’ does not apply.
