What parts do you need to build a computer?

So I have a problem with my computer, and I took it somewhere and the guy said I should really get a new computer or build a new one and scrap the one I have now and use its parts. I personally don’t know THAT much abut building computers; however, I have a friend who sort of does and his cousin does, so together we could build it. …but…I don’t know what you NEED to build a computer…or I don’t know everything you need to build a computer…So could someone make me a list of computer parts need to build a computer? Not specific parts, just parts like Video card, ram, PSU, etc… Also if you need any programs to make the computer work besides the operating system. thanks!

Motherboard. Processor (Compatible with slot in Mobo) RAM (memory. Hard Drive. Power supply optical drive (CD, DVD) —If your Mobo does not have these onboard Video card compatible with add-on slots _PCI, AGP, PCI Express. Sound card

periphreals. Keyboard, mouse and monitor

Newegg.com is my favorite place to buy parts. if you’re careful, you can build a decent system for about $500. I just went through and did a projection for my next build and its going to be about $1000, so you can make as basic or ase bleeding edge as you have the wallet for. and you can always scale up later, if you make good choices in your base parts.(Mobo, processor, and Power supply)
