What is the difference in pain for tattoos on fatty areas or not?

Just wondering if a tattoo on your side would hurt more if you don’t have much fat there or does the fat make a difference?

Answer #1

I don’t think having fat on an area can reduce the sensitivity of that area. What might reduce the sensitivity is having muscles that can contract to toughen the skin around that area.

Skin has nerve cells that send messages to the brain implying the sense of touch. What your assuming here is that the “fat” can interfere with the messages, Most likely not. It can though affect the tolerance of it.

I guess in a sense it can and can’t affect the pain level received from a tattoo.
