What is Spam, the food?

I’ve heard about spam on tv shows. (Not the computer kind) I’m guessing it has something to do with food or something? I don’t know.. I have tried googling it but nowhere actually says what it is, probably because the answer is so obvious to everyone. Its just that we don’t have spam where I live. I just want to know what it is and what people do with it. Thanks.

Answer #1

we do actually have spam here in NZ, its in supermarkets. I have never met anyone who has actually eaten it though, everyone, me included seem to think it sounds pretty strange

Answer #2

mikeh, technically pork shoulder is not ham; sometimes it is called picnic ham and while it comes from the same animal it like Welsh Rabbit isn’t rabbit and Corinthian leather isn’t leather, picnic ham isn’t ham.

I haven’t had spam in the 30 years I’ve been a vegetarian but as I remember spam, it was a little slimy and gross straight from the can but sliced and fried was rather tasty.

Answer #3

Grammar sticklers make me feel like there’s hope for the world after all.

I don’t think I’ve ever had Spam, myself. Meat in cans gives me the willies.

Answer #4

Where did this rumor start that Spam was ‘’leftover meat’’? It’s ham. That’s all. Just ham. Specifically, it’s pork shoulder that’s been bound together with potato starch and aspic.

It is not made from more than one animal, and it is not made from substandard meat. The name is a portmanteau of ‘’spiced ham.’’

Answer #5

I am from Hawaii, Spam is popular here in Hawaii. Spam is made with leftover meat from more than one animal along with salt, water, and other ingredients. Just like Hotdogs. It is very good but salty =]. It is precook, so you cant eat it straight out of the can =].

Answer #6

I thought spam is a brand of processed luncheon meat.

Answer #7

Answer #8
