What is normal?

I just had my cat neutered, and I notice a strong cat “scent” is this normal? also, he’s very agitated. they told me to keep him in the cage for7 more hours, but he’s scratching at the door trying to get out.

frecklz- I’m a little afraid for your cat…first off- males cats get neutered, females get spade, also, while some cats do tend to calm down a little after getting “fixed”, an increase in their natural body odor should not occur, especially as a measure of normalcy.

I’ve had a lot of cats neutered and spayed over the years. I’ve never had to keep them in a cage afterwards tho. So long as kitty is kept indoors and somewhere he cant hurt himself while he’s coming out of the anaesthetic, he should be fine. He needs a litter box and access to fresh water. Usually after a night indoors, they’re fine to let outside (if he’s an outdoor cat, that is). The smell may simply be that he’s had an accident and relived himself in the cage. I note you asked this 15 hours ago, so by now kitty should be just about his normal self again. Males are back to normal a lot quicker than females.
