I could be wrong here, but what the h*ll, I’m gonna give it a try… It sounds what you have could be a form of obsessive compulsive disorder. Your brain is telling you to treat this objects with emotion as if they actually have feelings. And, again, I could be wrong, but maybe you feel bad about yourself or feel like something bad or wrong will happen to you if you do not act this way towards objects.

The only reason I bring this up is because when I was younger, my parents were going through a divorce and I developed obsessive compulsive tendencies which sounds very familiar to what you are dealing with. I used to be extra nice to my porcelain dolls and treated them like they had feelings because I was afraid they would be mad and do something bad to me if I didn’t.

Maybe in some kind of similar way, you are doing the same thing?

I’m going to check the ‘notify me for new advice’ box so that I can figure that one out when you do. :)

I totally get that too. If I’m shopping and I want to buy something and there is two left, I have to buy them both or I will feel terrible for leaving the other one behind. In my case, I think I’m just overly sensitive and form un-natural attachments to inanimate objects. Maybe because I don’t have much family that I can love. It could be that reason for you too.

Lolz, yeah I’ve been wondering that too- because like if I like look @ a clock and say it’s like 9:07pm like right now, and it turns to 9:08pm, then I just HAVE to announce it or it’ll bug me for the rest of the day, and like if there’s barely any toilet paper left and I finish using it up, then I completely refuse to throw the little roll thingy away, I’ll just sit it down on the bathtub, or on top of the toilet…It’s so weird, like I imagine that it’s talking to me and it’s saying something like, “No- don’t throw me away!!! Please?!?” And then it’s crying, so I just listen to it…It freaks me out lolz.

I dont feel sorry for objects just lying on the ground but if im holding an inantiment object, like a pencil, and hit it on the desk or something by accident I either say ouch like it hurt me or say sorry like I actually hurt the pencil. I dont even ever think about saying those things it just happens…its wierd lol I dont think anything is wrong with you your just probably a very compassionate person but if it bothers you to much you can always see a therapist and theyll probably give you meds to help you chill out

Answer #6

Well, actually, I don’t feel sorry for people XDDD So it’s not just compassion overall.
