What does B.C.E. and A.D. Mean?

I know that B.C. stands for before christ, but what does B.C.E and A.D stand for? Any ideas?

Answer #1

BC = Before Christ (Before Christ was born) AD = Anno Domini = latin for in the year of the lord (After Christ was Born)

*AD does not stand for After Death. If that was the case we would not have a date assigned for the 33 years Jesus was supposedly alive.

Some chronologists, geologists and anthropologists object to time being anchored to any kind of Christian or religious benchmark. So they use BCE and CE

BCE = Before Common Era CE = Common Era

Answer #2

BC = Before Chris AD = Anno Domin BCE = Before Common Era CE = Common Era

Answer #3

BCE has meant a few things, actually: “Before the Common Era”, “Before the Current Era” or “Before the Christian Era” – all meaning times before now, when Christ is “dead”.

AD originally, I thought meant ‘After death’ but Zudano corrected me. His answer is right.
