What do Christians have against Wicca?

I recently became a Wicca 6 months ago and all I get is lectures from my Christian friend. Why? She says magick is ‘evil’ but gives no evidence why that is. Christians in the past went AGAINST the Bible by torturing and murdering hundereds of innocent women accused of witchcraft. Christians took Pagan traditons such as candle lighting, use the tradition then called it ‘evil’! Isn’t being a hypocrite against the Bible? So, Wiccans are a peaceful, happy religion and you all come along and tell us we will end up in Hell. Because we are ‘evil’. Have you even researched Wicca? We aren’t allowed to do evil! So, if we are not in fact evil, what have Christians got against Wicca?

Answer #1

Probably because Wicca is a bunch of BS. People say that the rituals pre-date Christianity, actually the rituals practiced today have been made up in the last 120 years. Books that people use as guides to Wicca were either completely BSed by the authors, or plagiarized, by people who BSed it.

Other than the infamous quote…thou shalt not suffer a witch to live?

And, you can’t pick and choose what parts of the bible (or any holy text) are good, true and the infallible word of God? Which means…any minute now, expect an angry Christian mob telling you you’re going to hell…

OR perhaps, just maybe…each people deserve to be able to cherish their own truth. I think that makes sense, but, I’m not a fan of zealots.

Answer #3

The Bible also states that we should not judge others…Oh look another thing most people who are all about the book choose to ignore.

Answer #4

gosh…if I had a nickel for everytime some ‘christians’ declared that someone was going to hell…I would be quite wealthy. Some ‘christians’ believe they have the G-d sanctioned right to tell everyone else they are incorrect…about the way they dress…about they way they worship…about who they love… If you listen to some ‘christians’ you would think that only they know right from wrong and more to the point WRONG from RIGHT… Not all christians are judgemental…not all damn all other religions to hell… it just depends on the christian…the religious right fundamentalist ‘christians’ seem to be the worst…evangelicals can be rather judgemental… Just live a good, kind life, show respect for others and their beliefs and non-beliefs and enjoy. Your friend is fearful and rather narrow minded. Perhaps a new friend…one that respects you for you would be in order…

Im suppose to be cristian but im notcause I was baptised catholic. Im just spiritual cause I dont beleive in the divison of religion, but thats amazing that you want to be wicca! its amazing cause its all about faith and the power of the mind. go for it!

Answer #6

I have nothing against it really, cause hey, it’s your choice to run your life and if you’re the type that stands your ground firm, then you are. the only concern I have towards wicca is that I don’t really see it as a religion, instead it seems to me to be more seen as a “belief system” since every wicca is intitled to their own understandings and beliefs of what THEY as an own INDIVIDUAL see wicca to be.

Answer #7

People, reguardless of religion or personal beliefs, can be condensending and judgemental. I am a Christian, and I believe all and any power should be through God; maybe thats where your Christian friends are comming from. They mean well, but it isnt for them to force they’re beliefs on you. Also, you dont go to hell for doing evil things; if that were so we’d all be in trouble. As a christian, I believe that Jesus died for our sins, so we dont have too. I leave this post with one more thing- if you dont want them to judge and sterotype you, stop judging and sterotyping against them. Focus what you have in common and let your similarities outrun your differences.

Answer #8

Well personally I try not to judge others and what they do. I’ve got a lot of friends who are athiests and actually my best friend is an athiest too but it doesnt change who she is. Personally, I think witchcraft is in some cases evil because it’s a force out side of God. However, in my deeper part of my family I think they on some level do magic, I mean whats that thing with the egg and they whisper stuff and move the egg over you to absorb the sickness? I don’t know what it’s called but yeah they do it sometimes. But still on my own personal level I think it is somewhat evil because it uses forces that arent our own. :)

Easter. Christmas, Halloween, etc..etc… Yes a lot of Christian traditions were originally Pagan traditions that were adopted by the Church because they could not get the peasants to stop those traditions and celebrations. It always amazes me that some people know so very little on the history of their chosen religion and basically allow someone else to spoon feed them ideas that are not their own. This goes for any religion.

A person that replied felt that Wicca was not a religion but instead a set of beliefs because it allowed too much individuality and interpretation. I disagree. Each person’s individual relationship with their God(dess)/Diety should be unique and personal. Religion is not a one size fits all thing.

Unfortunately you are going to face this type of judgment due to your choice. Despite the fact that America was founded on religious freedom there are far too many radical and fundamentalist fanatics out there that are eager to cast judgment. It’s the nature of the beast. This isn’t to say that ALL Christians are like this but you will find a vast majority are.

Answer #10

Halloween is Christian holiday? Really? I thor it was just a national holiday because no other countries do it

Answer #11

Christians didn’t go against the bible when they tortured and killed people because the old testament was very specific that certain amounts of slavery and torture were needed to punish the wicked for their sinfull lives. Things like if a man married a woman all that was hers would be his, meaning her body, possesions and mind.

When the christian religion came into play they were up against millions of years filled with traditions and herbal knowlidge. Where people worshipped nature and the mother goddess, or the gods of old. Where wise women were held in the highest regards. So they had to slaughter the entire female standpoint. Remove all that nature stood for and leave only the bare essentials for a man to rule over.

Women became temptresses and witches. Their holy days were stolen as holidays where Halloween was no longer the day of honouring the dead, but a day of fear and sadness. Where Yule was no longer the celebration of the birth of the sun but a son of their god.

They took what the religions of those days had to offer and they rewrote them into a new religion where people had to rely on guilt and preachers to lead them to some form of heaven. And the women became nothing but tools to their husbands.

To anwser your question.

The reason MOST christians hate/dislike/disaprove/ignore all Pagan beliefs is because in their mind it goes against their beliefs. Asif we were to battle the christian faith by celebrating the mother goddess. While really we celebrate the religion that has been hidden within and underneath their bible.

Answer #12

Ok, so in the bible it does say “witch craft” is evil. You are leaving your mind open to be over-taken by the devil. Stay away from all magic such as weigie boards(sorry lol I dont know how to spell that), fortune telling, waking the dead and anything like that. Your just asking for trouble. Harry Potter isnt exactly a good model for that.

Answer #13

One more thing… It is true that the Roman catholic church has blood stained history.. you will also see that this church used to also persecute those true christians who held up the Bible as their moral compass rather than the church. The Bible did predivt that this would happen. The catholic church was not the true representative of christianity. A true christian upholds the Bible and the faith of Jesus Christ as his truest and purest example.

Answer #14

As a christian, it is wrong to judge others or hate other for their beleif, but I want you to understand that it is a christian duty(meaning it is part of being a christian), that we state what is against the Word of God. This is not to be done in a judgemental way. it should only be done to warn you. God loves you and everyone else in teh world and he only tells us to stay away from certain things for our own good.

I personaly know the power of witchraft becasue of the terrible effect it had on my mother. you may not be doing the same thing with this power but it is still danger ous for you. so please, please stay away.

Good and evil is real. Yo can see the effects all aorung you. The source of evil(satan) is good at making things look innocent and charming, but he is pure evil. do not mess around with his powers.

Answer #15

@polkadotbikinigurl; gee. that’s insightful. But it doesn’t answer her question. And tell me, where in the bible does it say you have the right to judge others? Really, if you’re just going to go around telling people what they believe is wrong, you’ve got some issues. You don’t know that it’s wrong; you can’t say it is, because it’s not. Wasn’t one of the commandments “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” ?

I think that they judge the Pagan religion as bad because it goes against what other people have told them all of their lives.

Answer #16

Thanks, this helps. I wasn’t judging Christians, I respect what you believe in. The things about murder and hyocritcy was a quote from what another Wiccan said. I thought it was a good point anyway.
