What did I do to make him destroy the friendship we had?

Honestly this isn’t about love or relationship. It is really about a close friendship with a guy friend of mine who just so happens to be my ex boyfriend. Three years ago he and I dated for 2 months we fell in love too fast and the break up was horrible. It took us a year to get back to the friendship base, and as time went on he became one of the bests friends I ever had. We are still close.. so I thought.

I spoke to him on tuesday before I left for out of town and I told him I had his christmas present which was a picture frame and in it was a picture of me and him with a friendship quote underneath, and I wanted to talk to him about something that I really didnt feel like telling him over the phone. All I was gonna tell him was that his friendship means the world to me and if that I didnt have him in my life as my closest friend I would have nothing. Why didnt I tell him this on the phone? I like doing things in person because you get the person’s honest reaaction and emotions. I guess he was assuming I was gonna say something like “ how I still love you and want to be with you”. but that wasnt what I was gonna say at all.

I found out today he blocked me on a social site and a social site from even coming in contact with him, and I wanted to tell him and explain it, but he didnt give me the chance to. I honestly dont know what to do about it. I have his number but I dont want to call him just in case he would hang up on me and wont give me the chance to explain.

I was told “ never be friends with your ex” and “ just forget it he will talk to you eventually.” but I dont know…
