What can blood test show?

Ok, so I went to the doctors a while ago because of irregular periods, and she said if it doesnt get more regular then I will have to have a blood test. So I will be going back soon and hopefully having this blood test. But I was just wondering what blood tests can actually tell you? Can they tell you if you have any sort of serious illness, and can they also tell you if you have some sort of infection? Because I dont actually know what they tell you!! Thanks, and clues will be appreciated!

They are trying to find out why your periods are irregular. Most likely they are taking blood to test for any type of infection, disease, abnormality, pregnancy, etc.

Some women just have irregular periods, and some women’s are caused by things. They are just trying to rule out all the other possiblities before they assume that you are just irregular.

Agreed with mandyloo. They also need to check for diabetes and anemia.
