What are your favorite Christmas Memories and Traditions?

As I have been unpacking ornaments and untangling the lights I have been reminiscing. I have many favorite Christmas memories and traditions. My favorite was always the Mother’s basket. Simply put, us kids and our dad all watched my step-mom throughout the year. Everytime she lingered over something and then shook her head and went back to the list in her hand, the item went onto our list. Once a month or so, dad would take us out and get some of those items. We also added chocolate and a teddybear with the year on his foot. The first time was the best, to this day. She cried with joy and surprise when we gave it to her, and we laughed and smiled and congratulated ourselves for noticing all the things she had passed up for us and caring enough to get them.

So how about you? Any special traditions? Any really good Christmas memories?

I know this is wierd but I love the candlelight christmas eve service at chruch.

I just enjoy sitting around with family and friends, drinking a little and having fun to the theme of the holiday. That’s pretty much what I like about all the holidays come to think of it.

I like it RG.

We have a tradition with my kids, (now 16 & 20 years old) where we climb in the car and go around veiwing christmas displays at peoples houses. They list the houses in our paper that put on the biggest and best displays, and we map out a route to follow. We sing along to christmas music in the car, and we stop and get hot chocolate. We still do it every year. We are going to do it tomorrow night. Then we come home for some hot mulled wine for me and the wife. This year should be particularly pretty with all the snow we have on Long Island.

We usually make a gingerbread flavored egg nog mixed with bourbon.
