Constitutional Amendments are basically changes or additions to the US Constitution. After the constitution was written 1787, many of the founding fathers had felt that there needed to be some civil protections for the people in the constitution. These became the first ten amendments known as the Bill of Rights. They were ratified in 1791. 17 more amendments were ratified over the next 200 years. The last one was in 1992 that limited congressional pay raises. The various amendments cover many different topics. An amendment requires approval of 3/4 of the states in order to ratify.
