What are proxy servers? Are they illegal?

A proxy server is a computer that will get websites, store them and pass them on to your browser. Means, if you want to browse www.disney.com but your daddy blocked it, you go to the proxy server and ask it to get www.disney.com for you. It works as long as your dad does not block the proxy server, too.

This is not illegal! But you are sneaking up on your dad. Ask him why he blocked your website. He’ll tell you the reason. Maybe you know already? Have you been spending your time there when you should have worked on your homework? If that is: just aks him, if he’ll unblock it if you promise doing more for school. Probably the easiest way.

Proxy servers are used in most company networks. It’s usually the one computer that’s connected to the internet. It gives the websites to all other computers in the office. So only one needs a connection. There’s even a menu in the browser (internet ecplorer, firefox, chrome…) where you can put the proxy server. It’s hidden somewhere in extras and network /connections/ LAN. The exact path depends on the browser version you are using.
