what age do you have to be before you can live with your other parent?

My parents have been divorced since I was 2 and I live with my mum 99% of the time but I don’t like living with her and her partner and they treat me like s*. how old do you have to be to choose which parent you want to live with?

Answer #1

You can be any age. I’m pretty sure you get to choose who you’d like to live with. And if not.. Then you could probably ask your mom if you can do like, a month on, and a month off type pf thing… And you might eventually be able to move in with him for good. It’s pretty much all about transition. :)

Answer #2

You achually can at any ag because the court listens to you. Unless you cant talk for yourself or something but you just talk to your perents and say you want a chanche and also meaby if you tell the one that is in charche of your case,

Answer #3

Where do you live? I know in the U.S. after about 12/13 the judge will take into consideration the child’s wishes. But your dad has to go to court to change the custody agreement. Also what dancechickie is talking about is a guardian ad litem. The court will appoint one if they think that the child needs one.

Answer #4

if your parents are divorced, you probably have a law guardian. Try talking to them, you have the right to make the decision when you are 13, I think. If you don’t have a law guardian, try calling your dad, tell him how you feel. Maybe he can help. :) Good luck.
