I had my cat for 15 years until he died. I spent over $6,000 in less than two months on medical treatment and traveled across the state to different facilities. It was all completely worth it. I did it because I did not and could not live with feelings of guilt thinking I had not done enough to help him.

I did have to make the very difficult choice to have him humanely euthanized. It is a very personal and hard choice to make. I had him put down at my house, in my room, on my bed, in my arms. And it was the best thing I could have ever done for him. It WAS more expensive to have somebody come to my home and do it, but he was much more comfortable in his own space.

I would recommend when the time does come, to talk to your local vet and ask about “mobile vets” that can do the procedure at your house. It will make you feel better knowing that your best friend did not have to see the inside of a clinic as the last thing she saw. No pet likes to go to the vet, and sparing them the anxiety of it in their last few moments can mean the world to both you, and them.
