Was Iraq better off with Saddam

We were discussing this at work the other day, sure Saddam was a ruthless dictator who killed thousands of people, but what is the opinion on the fact that while he was in power, people were too afraid to do anything, basically he was the only person keeping that country in check, now that he has been executed, there’s really nobody who can fix the situation over there

Hmm. Considering I am actually over here in Iraq where Toadaly says “I dont care about the well being of Iraq” I think you have no idea whats its like and you shouldnt speak on what you dont know about. you would care for them just as your own countrymen if you knew they cared about the same things as you. Just my opinion

Answer #2

The opportunity is there for them to forge a new, more hopeful future - it’s up to them to take advantage - only time will tell.

Answer #3

“I don’t care about the well being of Iraq. “

I find that rather sad. I care for the well being of all people. I may not be able to do anything about it, but I still care when I see people suffering unnecessarily. Especially when it is our country’s fault that they are suffering in the first place. This kind of apathy is just terrible, but common among libertarians.

While Saddam was a brutal dictator, and had committed many attrocities in the past, it was not worth the cost in blood and treasure to remove him. It did not make Iraq any better, or safer in the long run. There were much better ways of achieving regime change in Iraq than starting a war that has probably killed a million people.

I can’t believe someone would even ask this question…

Answer #5
