Wannabe rockstar

I got this friend (who by the record is not me)

Who wants loves playing his 7-string guitar.

He has been playing longer than I have however, he is blinded by ignorance.

He cant play even if his life depended on him.

Just know this, he has been playing for 10 years just about and still looks like he has been playing for a few days.

He always bags on me and my genre of music. (christian rock) and tells me that I sux and all.

But aside from that.

It looks like he has wasted his life trying to do something he is not meant to do.

He is my good friend and all but this ignorant lifestyle is just not good.

I’ve been playing for only 7 years now and I already am teaching guitar, bass, and keyboard for extra cash. Also, I am in many different churches and playing there and play in two different bands. I’m studying music in college too.

He doesn’t seem interested at all with my offer for help or to even take a class.

He just stays in his room and listens to guns and roses all day but never improving.

So hear is the question:

Should I let him continue on this path or should I try to tell him to stop all together and find a different hobby?

Answer #1

Well you can only say so much, the rest is up to him

Answer #2

hu!REST

Answer #3

Point him to sites like garageband where he can submit his music for public review. Let strangers give him the bad news.

Answer #4

It’s totally up to him, but to be honest, with music and getting famous, it’s not about trying to be a rockstar or over trying to become a musician it just all falls into place and happens naturally. Most famous people even admit like they were in a club one night and they got speaking to an A&R rep or something etc. And they suddenly get discovered. It’s a bad industry! I almost (not quite) regret learning music technology for 3 years!!! It’s a luck based game really. It’s not often you see someone famous who have actually been into music or studied it etc they just abuse the system and push any chance of good musicians out. Hope this has helped, sorry for the waffling :D
