When you fill out the form at a walk-in clinic, do they send the information to your family doctor (read info)?

As well, is it a must you put your family doctor in your information? Another semi-related question, can walk-in clinics prescribe birth control? I would appreciate it if someone answers each question straightforward, I have quite a few issues with my family octor and am planning on switching but have not found one just yet.

you don’t have to you can just put you don’t have one or you can and its obvious you want to switch.then you can just completely stop going to your other doctor. i’ve done it with dentist.

In NZ, I know you don’t have to put family doctor on the form for some things. Usually, they just want your family doctor so that if you had a disease or injury (or asthma) that relates to something from your childhood, they can access the files easier for a faster prescribed treatment.

I’m pretty sure you can just get birth control at any family planning clinic etc without filling in a very in depth form… When I first went on birth control they didn’t ask many questions, pretty much just took my name and number etc for safety/contact reasons and handed it over….

Last time I went to a walk in clinic I put “IDK” under family doctor because I couldn’t remember who it was - its had been a long time since I had went ot the doctor :P. They didn’t say a thing.
So I would just put something to that effect. If they ask about it tell them you weren’t happy with your previous doctor and are looking for a new one or you don’t remember the doctors name, or just tell them you don’t want said doctor involved at all.

Answer #4

If you don’t tell them who your family doctor is, they can’t tell them a thing.

Ask them their privacy policy in advance.

Answer #5

None of the above answers were from anyone in Canada, so, from a fellow Ontarian … They will automatically send the information to your family doctor, however - you can just state that you are in-between doctors at the moment and they will retain your information at their own office until you give them the name of your doctor.

As for birth control - because it’s a long-term issue, most walk-in clinics will not give you a prescription, but if you go to the Sexual Health Clinic, you can get birth control there. There are a few to choose from: http://funadvice.com/r/151t72qm2lm

Well there is a planned parenthood but it is rather far and I can’t drive just yet so it’d be quite the trip.
