Vicious pets

Is it fare for the law to decide if we are allowed an American pit bull as a pet, plus is it not how we raise the dog, for the reactions it gives out when it’s older?? ARE THEY BORN TO KILL, your opinyon please??

Answer #1

Pit bulls aren’t born to kill, and they aren’t actually as mean as people say.

Answer #2

I believe that as long as the owner can prove that the pitbull has come under no harm, and there is no threat of the dog attacking anyone, that the owner should be allowed to keep him/her. I have been around several pitbulls, and I have never been bit once. My ex had a rescued pitbull named Princess, and she had been shot at with BB guns and trained to fight other dogs, but since she has been with them, she is the biggest suck ever. I don’t believe any animal is born to kill, even animals in the wild have to learn as they are growing up how to hunt for food. I say the owner should be responsible for the dog’s actions.

Answer #3

Yeah I know, thats why I think people are rong about them!!!

Answer #4

every dog has its own “built in” survival mode, and so do we, (we just got to spoiled and forgot how to use ours) any way back to the dog. It is HOW the dogs are raised and WHO’s hands they fall into. We had a Rottie (I believe they are in front of the pit for hardest bit) and she was a doll. She stood her ground but never bit anyone. I do think the law should play a roll in who own’s these types of dogs, because once they get into the wrong hands they have a life of misery that usually ends the same way. I know where I was from in Reading, Pa. you had to have the pit Registered with the City and paid I think $50.00 per year per pit. Ofcourse if people fought them illegally they still got around this. Just like if we were to ban guns, the black market would still have them and they would still end up in the wrong hands. There is a group that rescues Pitt;s called Bad Rap. They have great information on pits. So in my opinion they are born to be a dog and tought how to kill and fight.

Answer #5

Breed banning is a band aid on a human social problem…fair? Hell no…Will it work…hell no…Since the early 1900’s, there’s always been one “bad” dog…at that time it was Husky’s…The German Shepherd, the Doberman, and a host of other breeds have had their day in the “bad light”…now it’s Rotties and Pits…Only difference now, is that the government actually sees itself as the caretaker of us dummies in the general public…20 years ago, the thought that the government would actually interfere with dog ownership would have been laughable.

Answer #6

Pit Bulls were actually bred initially for dogfights, even though it is now illegal in the US. Regardless of the disposition of each indivivual pet, this is inherent. Some dogs are bred for speed, like the greyhound, some dogs are bred to herd, like collies; I’ve never personally owned a pit, but I do know they are bred for strength. I agree with phrannie–that the laws aren’t necessarily that effective b/c not everybody follows them– but some counties or cities have laws that attempt to ensure proper breeding and care, which would protect the dogs and people alike.

Answer #7

Of course they are not born to kill. The only thing that makes them different is that they are a more powerful breed, so when they do get agressive when they are not handled properly, with the correct leadership, they can do more damage. They should not be banned. It is the unresposible owners who do not take the role of the pack leader who should take the blame, it is never the dog, it is what the human does to the dog.
