vegetarian tacos (urgent!)

I’m going to a taco bar after my brother’s band performs tonight. any idea what to eat for a vegetarian. is that mushed bean stuff have meat in it? I’m not vegan so it’s fine if it has milk. for any of you who have been paying attention to my various questions, I’ve gone veggie. now I just have to tell my mom and dad (gulp). anyways any ideas about the whole taco situation? does anybody know?

Answer #1

ask for mole.

** Its not pronounced mole but pronounced MOLAY (not too much emphasis on the “y”)

its ‘blended beans with cheese and other good stuff they dont usually put any meat products in here…if its a real taco bar (meaning authentic Mex) then they will have it if not settle for some quesadillas or veggie taco.

Answer #2

I believe you’re talking about re-fried beans when you talk about the “mushed bean stuff,” and usually, re-friend beans contains animal fat or lard, so ask the restaurant before ordering.

Answer #3

The only thing you can do is ask. Traditionally refried beans are made with lard but many people use something else to make them healthier or so vegetarians can eat them. Another potential problem is rice. Some people use chicken broth when they make mexican rice. One Tex-Mex restaurant I go to uses lard in their beans but their rice is vegetarian; another puts chicken broth in their rice but their beans are vegetarian.

Since you aren’t vegan guacamole (Wok-a-mole-e) can be a good choice. Some people put a little cream cheese in their guac but that isn’t an issue for you.

Answer #4

it’s not like a restuaruant. it’s like a pot luck.

Answer #5

they might have other options to eat there. and if you wanta a taco get a vegitarian taco.

Answer #6

Don’t listen. She’s Ecuadorian, not Mexican! :P

Answer #7

dont listen to him. He’s White…and I believe I eat more beans than the average person. :-P

Answer #8

I can’t believe the person who wrote “Mole”. Mole is a sauce that often goes over chicken. I have never seen it in a taco, and I’ve been eating authentic tacos for over 50 years. I’m originally from E.L.A. My hubby is a vegetarian and I make lots of Mexican food. I would have encouraged him/her to eat cheese enchiladas, cheese quesadilla or chile relleno. Most restaraunts these days are not using lard in their beans because people are so fat consious. But the rice is often an issue due to the chicken broth used in homemade Spanish rice. I always tell me husband that if something looks good on a menu - just order it without the meat and eat around it. I was a vegetarian for a short period of time, and restaurants are very acommodating. Hope that helps for the future!
