Is it bad that I've started talking to myself lately?

Not like, having full on conversations haha. Just little things like mumbling to myself things like ‘now where did I park…’ or ‘I wonder if this will work..’ etc. It’s only started very recently and I’m kind of beginning to freak myself out haha! Why could I have started this? What can I do to stop?

Answer #1

No I do it all the time. I think its a sign of sanity because its you actually thinking things through. Its a sign of concious thought process. I dont think that could be bad. Now if you talking to you develops a seperate personality, then you might have to worry.

Answer #2

Talking to yourself is perfectly normal so long as you don’t exhibit multiple personalities. Its a great way to think out loud and talk yourself through a tough situation. If it doesn’t bother you keep it up!

Answer #3

You’ve always talked to yourself. It’s called thinking. Now you’re doing it out loud. I think it happens when you get older. I seem to do it more now than when I was younger. I think it’s because there’s just more to think about now.

Answer #4

I feel awkward now… On my way home from getting milks I was telling myself jokes and laughing at them, such a sad kid I am :’(

Answer #5

From my understanding, it is fine. It is just thinking out-loud; it often helps you remember things better, just like how we make acronyms order of the planets [My Very Excellent Mother Just Sent Us Nine Pizzas (although Pluto is not a planet anymore)] or little songs to help us remember the order of things (alphabet). Creating separate personalities or egos, is considered to be unhealthy.

Answer #6

Ty is right, its normal, a lot of people do it and it does NOT mean your crazy! i’ve been talking to myself ever since i was a little kid and i still do it often

Answer #7

no talking to yourself is awesome. the most important relationship you’ll ever be in is with yourself. so talk away (as long as you’re mentally sound. if not you should tell someone)

Answer #8

Nope I talk to myself too :)

Answer #9

I always talk to myself. When I walk to school and work, especially. I have conversations with myself or plan out conversations that I need to have with some one or expect to happen. Those types of things are common in introverts.

Answer #10

Don’t try to stop it. Your brain has started to realize that it is more efficient in doing some things if it can activate larger numbers of neurons in order to solve particular problems. . If you just think “now where did I park?” it does not involve so many distinctly different regions of the brain as if you say it as well - when you synchronize motor neurons to make the speech and auditory neurons that enable your hearing of the speech.
. You may also find that doing other things are well: like scratching the head, drumming the fingers on something, sticking the tongue out, or pulling the chin, further enhance the brain feedback mechanisms that allow you to arrive at a decision, functional solution, or to remember what you had almost forgotten etc.. . Plus, your never likely to find another interlocutor who is a better listener, nor with whom you are in greater agreement. You won’t find many people who are nicer to talk to. .

Answer #11

It’s okay. I do that, too.

Answer #12

How do you talk to yourself? I talk to myself as if I’m talking with another person.. e.g. when I’m forcing myself to wake up, I say “Wake up. WE’LL be late!”

is that bad? =(
