Why are UK sizes so small; do they not have big people over there?

All the UK sites that I’ve been on don’t have my size, and I’m not that big. All of the UK sizes are tiny. Is EVERYONE over there as tiny as that?

Answer #1

No, not everyone is tiny at all, I’m pretty small and I struggle to find clothes sometimes, just because there can be a big difference in sizes between different shops, even though the label size is the same. Take into account too, that UK sizes are different to North America.

Answer #2

No, it depends on the shop really. I’m a size 8 but in some shops I have to buy 10-12.

Answer #3

It depends on what shops you go to. City shops and popular web sites often seem to be specialized stores for anorexic customers. Throughout all Europe. It’s not better in France or Germany.

We do have shops that sell larger sizes though. And shops for normal sizes. If your size is US/Canadian 14 (that is UK 16) or above, you could google for “plus size” shops. Normal size shops usually don’t have anything above 18. Pink, hip fancy-girly shops sometimes have stuff up to size 10 or 12 only. I guess you found one of those.

Please note that the size tables are different between Canada/USA and UK. Clothes sizes are also different within Europe. So if you ever buy from any international shop, convert the size. Best is to find the shops size table and measure yourself before buying.

Example: US size 12 is equal to UK 14, French 42, German 40, Italian 46, Australian 16 and Japanese 15.

Answer #4

I’m a US size 11, but the UK online stores I’ve been to, don’t have that size, even converted
