How can I feel like I belong if I have very mixed heritage?

Im Half Greek,Some Black, Irish, Native American(Wampanog) I feel like I don’t belong anywhere because I feel people don’t like me because I don’t fit it with a Race or with anyone. People try to tell me what race I am and Label me as anything. I mean I cant relate with anyone I just feel like everything would be better if I wasn’t there.

Wow, when I was little I used to feel like everybody around me had some exciting origines and I felt like my family were boring because they were all white/French, and I wanted to be able to say I had some nice exotic origins to feel different, I guess the opposite feels just as bad then… If that can reassure you, I know actually love being French, I have been living in England for a bit more than 2 years (aybe because of that need to feel exotic and different lol), and I now get to feel how French I am, by getting to know the people that I now live around. I used to hate French people and feel I had nothing to do with them, always found it hard to make friends with them etc., and thought I could identify more with Asians and British people. Now I still think I have stuff in common with them, but I read books written by French people about the French and the British and vice-versa,and I am getting to know myself better, and to realise I am French and I like it for some reason. Maybe with time you will learn about those people you come from and their culture, and you will get to feel HOW these origins make you up, and what you like about them.

I hope this makes sense and that it helps :)

Good luck, and although it’s easier to say than to do, LOVE WHO YOU ARE !

xx

I know it sucks not being able to belong, I doubt anyone in my family has ever married outside my race, and I still dont feel like I belong because I have nothing in common with any of them…

Belonging really isnt about the way you look, its about finding people who you have stuff in common with and forming your own little community

Ok yes it kinda sucks not having a ready made place to belong to, but sometimes you dont, and so you find your own place to belong to…

And p.s. having a lot of different heritages means you get all sorts of different things, beliefs, looks (mixed people are always the most exotic), backgrounds… I know its hard to appreciate it when you’re young and you just want to fit in, but in time maybe you’ll come to like the fact that you’re not like everyone else in the world…

Race isn’t everything and that is some pretty kool heritage background I think. You do fit in you just have to be outgoing and ready to meet new people. EVERYONE can fit in!

I know how you feel with the sterotypes and lables/ you should find some friends who don’t give a crap about that stuff/ I am sure you will find some people who can relate to you I mean my family came from so many back rounds I can’t name them all and most of the people I am talking about aren’t related by blood but we’re still one big family/ theres this song that might help you by Liinkin Park its called Some Where I Belong/ trust me it helps ^_^
