Most of them go into a semi-hibernation state. During this time they make stay for long periods of time in the bottom of the pool until the weather gets warmer. Other turtles leave the water and go stay in moist, grassy land.
Hibernate, I found a turtle last year and me and my friend kept it as a pet and it lived on her front porch and she and i went out one day and he was all up in his shell and we thought he was dead so we put him in a box and were gonna burry him but then my mom came and got me we forgot about it and her dad put it on a shelf and when i was spring she heard something in her garage and looked up in the box and the turtle was alive.
